About the Pace Calculator
Pacing is the single most important skill in endurance running, cycling, and triathlon racing. Starting a race too fast burns through glycogen reserves prematurely, leading to late-race exhaustion. This Pace Calculator computes your target split times per kilometer and per mile to help you plan your training runs and achieve your personal best finish times.
How to Use This Calculator
- 1Enter your target or actual workout Distance in kilometers (common benchmarks: 5K = 5 km, 10K = 10 km, Half Marathon = 21.1 km, Marathon = 42.2 km).
- 2Enter your elapsed time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
- 3Instantly view your average pace per kilometer, pace per mile, and speed in km/h and mph.
Formula & Calculation Methodology
Worked Example: Determining Split Pace for a Sub-50-Minute 10K Run
Scenario: A runner aims to complete a 10-kilometer road race in exactly 50 minutes (0 hours, 50 minutes, 0 seconds).
Assumptions & Practical Limitations
- Calculations assume a constant flat grade and even effort throughout the distance. Hilly courses and adverse wind require adjusting splits.
- GPS watch discrepancies due to tall buildings or tree cover may cause slight variations between recorded chip time and GPS distance.
